~ Corydalis ~

meaning 'Blue Panda'

He is my first bear of 2012 :)

He was created using a silvery gray mohair. I hand-dyed the outside of his arms, legs and both sides of his ears in dark navy blue. I then antiqued him first using a cinnamon and coffee mixture. After drying, I used a combination of dark blue and brown oil paints to add additional shading and antiquing to give him a nice subtle vintage look.

He has a little fabric patch handstitched on his belly to add to his vintage charm :) He has premium black glass eyes with upper eyelids with shading all around to give them nice depth. I handstitched his nose in very dark brown, then lightly waxed and shaded it in black for further dimension. His paw pads are dark blue ultrasuede which are shaded lightly in a dark blue/brown mixture. I made him a fabric 'scarf' around his neck. I actually made the scarf after putting it on him so I don't know what it would look like if you took it off..lol!! The scarf, not the bear! hee hee! I tied the rusty brown fabric 'scarf' around his neck, the cut some ribbon strips onto which I threaded brown & gold glass beads. It was just the right touch because it fits him perfectly :) He is approximately 12 3/4" tall and sitting he is approximately 9". He's fully 5 way jointed and weighted a bit with steel shot sand in his belly.

Always remember that color monitors pick up colors differently so he could look slightly different in person than what he looks like in his pictures.

Work in progress...

I promised that I would post a preview of my new bear just as soon as I got to a preview point. I know it's not much but it's where I'm at so far :o)

That's my new beary's foot...all sculpted and the shading started. I'm not finished with the shading though as I'm not satisfied with the color just yet. I'm hoping to work on scissor sculpting the face tomorrow. I've started on it already, but stopped to work on the paw pads. This fur reminds me of real fur, it is incredibly soft, like baby powder soft and I can tell is not going to be easy to scissor! But I think I'm ready for the challenge..lol! I'll post more pics soon of this spring time - completely out of my comfort zone - pinkish purplish bear...;o)

I absolutely love seeing where artist's create their bears and such. Looking into their lovely studios, everything so pretty and organized. Always makes me feel like creating just looking into their creative spaces! Soooo I thought I would share MY 'studio' with you so you could get a peek into my creative 'space' :)

Below is my designing, tracing and cutting out table. It is also my paint booth and other various stages of my creating goes on here as well. This table is also known as...my kitchen table. (Uhh..Please ignore the pop tart crumbs...thanks)

Below you will find an absolute work horse..a.k.a my fantastic antique portable Singer sewing machine. I simply cannot imagine sewing on anything else! I love you little sewing machine!This is my office assistant, Link...a.k.a my lap warmer :)
Oh would you look at that! My assistant asleep on the job...I'll have to have a word with him later....the slacker...
We have now arrived to my sewing station, where I do all my hand sewing, needle and scissor sculpting, stuffing and other general creativeness....a.k.a my living room couch. It's great and there's no assembly required! And look at the fabulous built in pin cushion...Yes I know! And might I mention comfy as well! (The blur you see below is my assistant, umm..bathing himself..this is not acceptable...not acceptable at all!)
And there you have it, my creative spaces! I hope you've enjoyed the tour and before we leave I thought I would also throw in a tiny sneak peek at the fur I will be using for my next bear :)

It's almost Halloween!

Hello! It's been awhile since I posted...yeah I know I sound like a broken record right? But it has been wildly busy ever since my kids started back to school. Between volleyball practices, volleyball games, spell bowl practices, my little 5 year old son having separation anxiety every morning before school...it's been just a tad bit busy! But I think things have finally calmed down a bit...I think. I probably shouldn't count my chickens before they hatch right? Oh great, now I have myself all worried, I probably jinxed myself for sure! LOL! Ooooh well....anyways, just wanted to share some pictures of our newly carved pumpkins! My family and I spent the afternoon each carving our own pumpkins :) We all drew our own pictures and carved them, even my 5 year old...with one of those cool safety carvers of course :) So I took some super cool pictures to share them with you!

And above is Hannah's super awesome zombie pumpkin and Evan's adorable puppy and owl pumpkin! Aren't they great!! :)

Our little 65 VW bug is all dressed up for Halloween too! We put pumpkin lights on the roof rack! Isn't that just cool!?

I'm so pleased to introduce my newest creation little Wetherbee. He is my very first attempt at creating a bear to look 'old and well loved' while still maintaining my 'look'. I had so much fun creating this little fellow and I hope you will enjoy meeting him just as much!

I just wanted to share an early Christmas present to...shhh..myself :) Found this great deal on ebay...3 yds of various beautiful mohairs. Also was so priviledged to 'meet' Heidi Hollis from Citico Ridge Bear Co., she was the artist selling the lot of mohair. She was so very nice! It was fun chatting back and forth with her :0) And, she was soooo kind in sending an extra gift of several sets of glass eyes along with my mohair! What a sweetheart!! Thanks again Heidi! Here's another peek at the progress of my new bear...please forgive the blurry picture and the fact that the poor critter only has one eyelid in place at the moment...

I'm really happy with his progress so far, I can't wait to get his other eyelid in place and do more shading which I sooo enjoy :) But sadly, it will have to wait until later on this afternnoon, the grocery store is calling and is in desperate need of more of my money so I better not make them wait...lol :)

Just got back home from a lovely trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. We stayed in this beautiful cabin located deep in the woods in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. No internet access, no phone...just God's beauty all around. No other cabins or homes near by, only a little creek across the drive to keep us company.

Yes, in case you're wondering, my husband had to drag me kicking and screaming when it was time to leave for home...

Blinded by the light...

Ever been woke up by a 4 year old before? If so, then you know they can come up with some pretty creative ideas to get you out of bed in the morning. I thought I would share the story of how my son got me out of bed yesterday morning.

Now I must first set the scene so you can appreciate this story from a first person point of view of the events as they unfolded.

I am sleeping peacefully in my dark, dark room when I hear my little boy's sweet voice ask "Mommy are you going to get up?"..."Yes honey - in just a minute or two ok?". I hear tiny footsteps running away down the hall as I fall back into a relaxing sleep...once again I hear that sweet voice "Mommy?"...I slowly open my eyes...and when what to my wondering eyes should appear but a camera flash being held quite near...as my eyes attempt to focus and recoup from the glare...away he flew down the hall only his tiny footsteps could I hear....
